Archive for the ‘Adrian Smith’ Category

Back in 2011 when I first announced that I was starting Industria Mechanika, one of my first collaborator announcements was for Adrian Smith. We wanted to do something slightly different from his normal artwork… something that we thought you guys would love and I had an idea in my head I’d been toying with. I gave him a few rough ideas in text form and what he came back with was more amazing that I ever dreamed up. We initially teamed up with a clay sculptor, but the result was… not good, suffered many many delays, and we missed out on this being one of our first releases. But after Adrian introduced me to the uber-talented 3D artist Rishi Nandlaskar, the modeler for our Frankenstein (email me if you want a potential 2nd Frankie edition!) and Deckhands releases, we finally can bring this release to reality and to you!

Announcing Adrian Smith’s Chrononaut!

This steampunk inspired time-traveling hunter will be released as a 1/8 scale resin/multimedia kit early this summer. In fact if all goes well, it might even be done in time for Wonderfest 2013 in Louisville.

What you see above in 3D is about 95% complete. Rishi is adding and refining the textures and should be done with the 3D by this weekend. Below I’ve added some of the original concept sketches as well as the final concept art. The price is TBD of course and due to the large (and awesome!) T-Rex head base will be a little more expensive than what I intend our 1/8 scale line-up to be as the base will make up almost 1/2 of the kit bulk in printing and casting costs. He’ll also have some photoetch, chain, wire, etc in the box to complete the kit.

And of course he’ll look awesome alongside of our upcoming Freaky Gothic figure by Calum Watt/David Richardson!

I’ll add him to the shop for notifications in a day or two.

Lots of news to go over today as I missed showing off a few things last week.

New Hornethopter Pilots Set »

First I must apologize to Christophe Desse for not posting these sooner! He redesigned the Hornethopter pilots based loosely on my original hand-sculpts for the first few editions. The seated pilot will be available with the next release of the Hornethopter, while all four will be available as a separate set. No idea on price yet, but expect them in the store within 6-8 weeks.

Fish Sub Pilot Beginnings »

Christophe Desse is also busy designing a pilots set for the original and upcoming MkII Fish-Shaped submersibles. The next edition (6th) of the Mk I may not come with the figure, (as it won’t be ready in time for the next edition) but the first edition of the Mk II will and a sub pilots set including the seated pilots (for those that purchased the first 5 editions of the Mk I sub) will be available for everyone around the time of the Mk II release. Below you can see the base figure. Other pilot versions will have an old-timey tank-top swim suit style, hats, breathers, etc…

Derek Stenning’s Dystopic Update »

Not much new to show here, but I wanted to let everyone know that Dystopic is coming soon! The print will be done in 4-5 days I’m told, then clean-up, then onto production. We’re still looking at October for a preorder/release. Below you can see how the parts-breakup will look. Each color is a separate printed kit part.

Futuristic Loader Update »

A few new images of the Futuristic loader. I brought up that there was no leg support for this heavy lifter so the team collaborated and came up with this great-looking result. I’ve added it to the calendar as a tentative November preorder/release.

Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein »

frankenflyer1

The wait is almost over for this massive beast! Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein is 12″ tall (not including base height) and features over 50 parts, real chain mail and chain. There’s 3/4 gallon of resin used in each kit if that gives you an idea of the mass. Due to the weight, international shipping costs will be somewhat higher than usual. Another month and time for another iMech news update! This time we show off some Ian McQue’s Remora build-ups and the latest for the upcoming  figure, set, a cool new Flyer from Christophe Desse, and the long awaited progress shots of Scott Robertsons Orbship!

Christophe Desse’s Red Star 47

redstar47-4

I first saw a photo of this cool Russian looking flyer by Christophe Desse, a 3D artist for Naughtydog, a few years back on the Concept Ships blog. I loved the design, saved it to my HD, but thought I was looking at a photo of a finished model kit so I didn’t attempt to contact Christophe about producing it. Luckily, he contacted us and as it turns out, the image was not a finished model, just a 3D render made to look like a completed toy/model.

redstar47-1

Christophe has been hard at work making small design changes to the flyer and designing all new figures to go with the kit. Look for the Red Star 47 flyer to be available for preorder November 2012.

KIT RELEASE DATE: November 2012
KIT SCALE: 1/35

Scott Robertson’s Orbship

sr_blast_orb_ship_yg

Been a while since we had news of this, but here are some in-progress renders of Scott Robertson’s 1/48 scale Orbship. Scott is still fine-tuning and adding details and 3D artist friend of his is working on a figure to accompany it.

Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein

prodchallenge001_a

Frankie is at the caster slated for an April 2012 release. Meanwhile I’ve been working on gathering materials and doing the print work for the kit. Because it’s really cool, I wanted to show off the chain maille that will come with the kit. It’s hard to see in the renders, but there’s a bit of maille under the belt and shoulder armor. Each kit will come with a 3 inch square sheet of 1/8″ steel ring maille to use to complete the kit.

Ian McQue Figure Set #1

Here’s a few shots of the 3rd figure in the upcoming Ian McQue figure set. Like the Rigger and Mopper, this waving crewman figure was modeled by Rishi Nandlaskar. Watch for upcoming shots of the final two in the set!

“Ian McQue’s Remora” Build-ups!

fichtenfoo-remoras-wp

Some really great build-ups of the First Edition Remora kits are appearing on our forums. Check them out here and leave the modelers some comments. I (FichtenFoo) finished my two Remora a few weeks ago. (pics here) The blue one is mine and the red was done for Ian based on the box art. He should receive it any day now so I can’t wait to hear what he thinks!

There’s still a few 2nd Edition Remora kits available for preorder. Click here to place a preorder of Ian McQue’s Remora.

Dmitry Parkin’s Vampire Preorder Info

The Dmitry Parkin Vampire is available for preorder right now and will be shipping next week. Watch for an upcoming build-up of the Vampire by the very talented Rick Cantu of Dragonstooth Miniatures!

frankenstein-06

Woo! I received the master 3D print for The Frankenstein designed by Adrian Smith and 3D modeled by Rishi Nandlaskar in the post today. I immediately cracked open the box and started putting it together and I must say that this kit is BAD-ASS! Frankie stands about 12″ tall (not including the base) and is very heavy and beefy with the muscles and armor. This kit doesn’t have a scale as it was based on an existing 3D print, but I would say, considering his massive size, that he’d be about 1-8 scale.

Frankie Unmasked!

Until now I have never seen the back of this model or all of the details so when I opened the box and started removing the foam I was in for a surprise. I had thought that the helmet was molded on, but in fact it’s a separate part and Frankenstein has a fully-detailedhead/face beneath it. There’s a peg hole i the top of the head, but one could easily fill that with putty if they wanted a helmetless Frankie.

frankenstein-07

The kit consists of 54 parts so far. I need to order scale chain mail and chain for the mace to include in the box. Due to all the parts and detail, I need to create the instructions for him before he goes to the caster so expect him to be released in March or April. Until then, enjoy these pics!

There’s lots going on with iMech and our collaborators. A lot of projects are near completion a means we’ll start to hit our goal of one major release a month soon! Here’s some random news highlights:

Miguel Lopez Dustbuster

I’ve been getting a few emails and PMs asking when the Dustbuster will be ready. Here’s some shots of the model so far. It’s getting really close to completion and we’re hoping for a release no later than April 2012.

Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein

This wasn’t planned initially as an Industria Mechanika release, but we couldn’t resist when we saw it! The Frankenstein started as a contest for CGHub where Adrian Smith supplied a few sketches and it was up to 3D modelers to interpret them. The winner got a printed copy of their design. I asked Adrian, CGHub and the winning artist, Rishi Nandlaskar if they’d like to produce it into a model and the answer was a resounding yes! The print is on it’s way to me now so expect this “beauty” to be released in the first half of 2012.

More Adrian Smith Designs

We also have two more of Adrians designs in the works and will be collaborating with Adrian and CGHub soon on another contest. Watch CGHub for details.

Jake Parker’s Chompbot #5

The 3D portions of the Chompbot are at the printer and should get to Jeff Brewer, our modeler for hand-refinement soon. Once he gets them and takes some pics I’ll post them. We’re also working on more accompanying figures by Jake Parker and Jose Alves da Silva as seen below.

Kallamity’s Kastor

The Kastor is on its way to us from Luca and as soon as I get it and take photos to start the instructions, and send the PE files to the etch producer, it’ll be on its way to the caster. Expect it in early 2012!Luca took some inspiration from Ian McQue’s rendering and added the following figures to the kit. Woo!
