Kastor Illustration Contest Winner!
Kallamity’s Kastor is coming in April so we’ve been hard at work getting the print materials ready for the kit packaging. Part of that is of course announcing the winner of the Kastor Illustration contest! We had 4 really cool entries and would like to thank all of the participants for submitting them. Congratulations and the prize of a Kastor kit and their work used in the print materials and Kastor Art Card Set is Daniel Comerci! Here is Daniel’s Entry:
All of the entries can be seen in the thumbnail gallery below.
Below are small shots of what the box label art and instructions will look like with their beautiful, large cover artworks by Scott Robertson and Ian McQue. The label and instructions will be full-color.
Kastor Art Cards
Here is the set of four 4×6 inch frame-able Kastor Art Cards that will come free with the first edition of the Kastor, and also be available as a separate purchase. Thanks again to the artists for their beautiful works! On the card fronts in order from left to right, top to bottom: Scott Robertson, Daniel Comerci, Luca Zampriolo, and Ian Mcque
On the reverse side of the cards are Luca’s early illustrations and thumbnails of the Kastor creation process.
There’s lots going on with iMech and our collaborators. A lot of projects are near completion a means we’ll start to hit our goal of one major release a month soon! Here’s some random news highlights:
Miguel Lopez Dustbuster
I’ve been getting a few emails and PMs asking when the Dustbuster will be ready. Here’s some shots of the model so far. It’s getting really close to completion and we’re hoping for a release no later than April 2012.
Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein
This wasn’t planned initially as an Industria Mechanika release, but we couldn’t resist when we saw it! The Frankenstein started as a contest for CGHub where Adrian Smith supplied a few sketches and it was up to 3D modelers to interpret them. The winner got a printed copy of their design. I asked Adrian, CGHub and the winning artist, Rishi Nandlaskar if they’d like to produce it into a model and the answer was a resounding yes! The print is on it’s way to me now so expect this “beauty” to be released in the first half of 2012.
More Adrian Smith Designs
We also have two more of Adrians designs in the works and will be collaborating with Adrian and CGHub soon on another contest. Watch CGHub for details.
Jake Parker’s Chompbot #5
The 3D portions of the Chompbot are at the printer and should get to Jeff Brewer, our modeler for hand-refinement soon. Once he gets them and takes some pics I’ll post them. We’re also working on more accompanying figures by Jake Parker and Jose Alves da Silva as seen below.
The Kastor is on its way to us from Luca and as soon as I get it and take photos to start the instructions, and send the PE files to the etch producer, it’ll be on its way to the caster. Expect it in early 2012!Luca took some inspiration from Ian McQue’s rendering and added the following figures to the kit. Woo!
Dmitry Parkin’s Vampire
The Vampire is at the caster and will begin production as soon as the 1st Edition Remoras are out the door. The Vamp is our next release so watch for preorders to begin in January!
Ian McQue’s Remora
The Remora 1st Edition kits are almost done at the caster and I’ll receive a batch next FridayThe caster has orders to keep producing more after the 1st 50 are completed so watch for the 2nd Edition to hit the site in January.
Derek Stenning’s Dystopic
The 3D model of Dystopic is just about complete and looks amazing. Derek wants to make sure it’s 100% perfect before we show it off, but it’s definitely coming soon!
TMMI’s Hornethopter Review
It’s hit the news stands and iPad so check it out!
Luca Z sent me the rest of the Kastor images he has, including the beginnings of an illustration started by Scott Robertson. It’s really taking shape and has that distinctively awesome Kallamity look and feel. Price and Release Date TBD.
