31313 News! Got a nice update for you today! Mike Jensen Drone Sniper’s 3D print images, Final images of Christophe Desse’s L’Estafette, and Manchu Steam Car update!

Mike Jensen’s Drone Sniper »

Before you’ve heard the shot, you’re already dead. The 1/8 scale Drone Sniper print is done and ready for casting. The print looks amazing and if all goes well with the casting quote, it’ll be our most affordable large scale figure yet, which is the goal for our 1/8 scale figure line.

Manchu’s Steam Car »

steamcarannouncement

Philippe Bouchet, aka Manchu’s 1/35 Steam Car is just about ready for production. The figures, modeled by Pedram Karimfazli, are complete and look great in the car. We should have a final, color render of that soon. Meanwhile, here’s a shot of the Steam Car and Figures separately. Preorders start in April 2013!

Christophe Desse’s L’Estafette »

Here’s the final images of Christophe Desse’s 1/35 L’Estafette w/figures (included with kit!). Of note are the new rims. After some feedback and research of wire rims done with photoetch, we realized that it’s difficult to design, (not really a problem for us) difficult to cast as we wouldn’t want to split the wheels in half like more PE/Resin wire wheels do for 1/35 motorcycles so would mean each wheel would have 5-6 parts that would have to fit PERFECTLY and resin shrinkage is always a problem, and difficult for the average modeler to do correctly the first time without needing extra wheels (why most 1/35 motorcycle kits don’t have wire wheels as the default). So what we’re going to do is have the wheels be 4 cool dieselpunk mag wheels, with two optional hubcaps for the rear wheels. We may do an optional set of wire wheels if there’s enough interest. Let us know!

FichtenFoo’s Orb Ship Build-up »

fichtenfoo-imech-orb-wp

I finished up my Orb Ship build-up last week after putting it aside for several months while working on other masters and product launches. It’s a really fun build and if you haven’t had a chance to get one, you can preorder the next edition on Friday. Here’s the pics of my build-up and more detailed info/tutorials on the build can be found on my blog at FichtenFoo.com.

Scott Robertson’s Orb Ship 2nd Ed Preorder »

osmain

The Scott Robertson 1/48 scale Orb Ship‘s 2nd Edition will be available for PREorder on Friday 3.1.2013 as well. This very large ship is $155 + Shipping.

Hi everyone. So it’s been about 1 year now since our first official Industria Mechanika product, Ian McQue’s Remora started shipping out. Since then we’ve done two more editions of it and a LOT of other products. Thank you all again for your support. I know the economy is crap right now, but our collaborators, vendors and I appreciate your business and loyalty as many of you are repeat customers, some of whom have bought every kit we’ve released. I know our release schedule is… random at best. I really try to keep the schedule on track, but with different collaborators (with full-time jobs aside from this), casters and vendors all contributing to the same products, plus with 30+ different products in production at any given time, that can be difficult. The holiday season has wreaked havok on it as well, but we adapt and carry on! So without further adieu, the news…

Michael Herm’s Rook »

Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!! This has been pushed back a little more, so for those of your emailing me, concerned that you missed it (about 50 of you so far, LOL!) no worries! I reset the preorder start date to 2.15.2013 (Be sure to click the notify link on the order page to get an email when it’s ready and add our sales@ address to your NOT SPAM filter.) and that should be the last reset.

There was a few items that needed last minute tweaks noticed by the 3D printer… parts that were too thin to cast properly. I love that they check our work to help ensure a great end product! We’re also working on finalizing the box art and I should be able to start on the instructions this week as well. What I don’t want to do is start a preorder-period that ends up extended with production delays. That’s happened a few times and it’s a hassle for you guys. Better we have a good idea on the actual release date and do the preorder start a few weeks (not months) before that. Again, sorry for the delays, but this will be an amazing kit. So to summarize:

Rook/Pawn Preorder Start Date: No later than 2.15.2013
Rook/Pawn Shipping Date: No later than 3.15.2013
Rook Price: TBD (depends on casting/print costs)
Pawn Price: TBD (depends on casting/print costs)

Ian McQue’s Waldo First Look »

I’ve been hinting at this one for a while now and finally you can see what’s coming up!

waldo-00

The 1/35 scale Waldo is a smaller airship than the Remora with a hull length of about 14cm/5.5in and width of 5.5cm/3in. It’s more of a tug/maintenance craft than a hauler, but will feature a cargo rack on the transom that you can fill up with all manner of storage. This kit will be a truly multimedia experience with a laser-cut wood deck (prototype seen below), photoetch wheelhouse/roof and details, resin parts, decals, and various threads and wires.

I (FichtenFoo) am working on the master currently which is why I haven’t done a paint-up of many of our recent releases yet. The Waldo is about 60% done I think. I had the hull 3D-printed without details so that I can add those myself. I’m doing it this way mainly because it’s a difficult hull shape and I wanted the laser-cut deck to fit nicely. I also needed the hull to be hollow so that I can add a full engine inside of it since you should be able to see through deck grating, all the way through the ship creating a really nice layered effect.

waldo-01

I expect to be finished with the master in February at which time it’ll go immediately into production. Not sure of the final price yet as there’s a lot of components to price as you can imagine. Hopefully the Waldo will be shipping some time in May. Watch for it to be added to the store for notifications soon!

Last month I mentioned that we were doing a lot of client work that we were not allowed to discuss yet. The first of these client projects went live today and now I can spill some beans! (Not all the beans, but a nice sampling)

Vaylr Studios is running a kickstarter campaign to get funding for their upcoming first-person action horror game called “Pray for Dark”. “In Pray For Dark™ you play as Angel (aka Sewer Man), a rogue assassin hunter who is forced down into the “Hell” beneath a once great city now ruled by corruption and crime. Only you have the unique power to kill a massive legion of mutant beasts and their malevolent leader known as the Queen Mother …or you’ll die tryin’.

It has a unique steampunk vibe to the setting with cool characters inspired and licensed by gothic fantasy artist BROM. As a fan of both Steampunk and BROM, as well as an avid gamer, I’m pretty excited about this title.

vaylrjoe

Industria Mechanika’s role is to produce one of the backer rewards in their Kickstarter fundraising campaign. Angel has a cool sidearm named Lil’ J.O.E.. We’re producing a strict limited edition 1:1 scale garage kit of Lil’ J.O.E. which will be available to those who pledge the minimally required amount to get that reward.

95c2487344bd78a9a236d904485fbf0b_large

The Lil’ J.O.E. kit will contain resin kit parts, both clear and opaque, leather strapping, and photoetched brass. Each kit will also contain a multi-part resin stand in order to display your completed Lil’ J.O.E.!

Check out the Kickstarter campaign (watch the video!) as well as the press release for more details, and if you can, please donate to make this game a reality. looks like a lot of fun!

Christophe Desse uploaded and sent me more images of the upcoming 1/35 scale Red Star Flyer and the two figure sets that will be available with it. You can see the added detail on the flyer coupled with photoetch for some of the thinner detailed parts and this will be a very cool release. A seated pilot figure will be included. Two additional figure sets designed by Christophe will be available as well.

manchusteamcar-01

I wanted to take this opportunity to show off another few collaborators and their upcoming product. This “Steam Car” with trailer is scheduled to be our September 2012 release. The Steam Car artist, Philippe Bouchet also known as Manchu,(see his Concept Ships stuff too) is an amazing science fiction illustrator. He emailed us asking about collaboration and sent a pile of paintings. As soon as I saw the Steam Car with Trailer I knew it’d be a great fit in our line of products. I connected him with the talented Bruce Lee, a hard-surface 3D artist to collaborate on the production model.

manchusteamcar-05 manchusteamcar-03

Philippe wanted to make changes from his original painting to improve upon the design. The Steam Car is now sportier and more detailed. Also as the model progresses he is providing Bruce with amazing sketches and details to make this release as realistic/plausible as possible. These latest images provided by Bruce today show the latest progress. They’re already tearing into it to improve the suspension (front suspension cross-bar would hit car nose on a bump in the road at the moment) and grille area. After that they’ll be moving onto other details such as the interior and front fender. The collaboration process to bring this to life is amazing to watch.

1/35 or 1/24 Scale? What Would You Prefer?

We’re not quite 100% as to what the scale will be. I asked on Facebook last week about preferred scale, but didn’t show or say what the kit would be. We do a lot of 1/35 scale steampunk releases, but this might be a nice bigger change of pace in 1/24 scale. It would be roughly 13.5in long at 1/24 and 9.25in long at 1/35. So now that you see it, check out the New Facebook Thread or post on our forum what your preferred scale for this would be.

Scheduled Release: September 2012

Welcome to another edition of iMech News! This time we’ll announce a new upcoming FichtenFoo/MechaSkunk product collaboration, a new Ian McQue product, preorders and restocks, and some new pics of upcoming releases.

FichtenFoo’s Squid-Shaped Submersible!

This counterpart to the steampunk-styled Fish-Shaped Submersible was started by hand almost a year ago, but due to a less than awesome 3D print of the drill, was put on hold. Rob Fuchs of MechaSkunk who did the drill 3D file for me originally has taken on finishing the rest of the craft in 3D based on my sketches and half-done master parts. He’s adding some of his own touches and the progress is awesome. Can’t wait to see how the dive-planes and interior look. While the Fish-Sub is a peaceful civilian styled craft, the Squid is indeed a predator. Using the enormous screw propeller to streak through the water, it can ram vessels or use its tentacles and “beak” drill to fill their hulls full of holes. A true terror of the deep! 1/35 Scale! Look for the squid to be available late-summer 2012.

Discuss Squid-Shaped Submersible in the Forum!

Chompbot #5′s 3D Print and More Jake Parker Figures

Ownage sent us these images of the 3D print before they ship it to Jeff Brewer, the 3D/traditional sculptor who will be adding some final touches by hand. The bot is roughly 8.5″ (215mm) tall and looks to be a very fun build-up. The body is hollow to allow for lighting.

Jose Alves da Silva is almost done with the Chompbot Figure Set as well, and here’s a look at two more figures in-progress. The other figures can be seen in the last news update here.

Ian McQue Figure Set #1

We’d hoped to have this done before releasing the Remora, but it is coming! Here’s a preview of two of the five figures coming soon in the first Ian McQue Figure Set. The “Mopper” and the “Rigger”. These figures, sketched by Ian and 3D sculpted by Rishi Nandlaskar will look great on the deck of the Remora and future Ian McQue ship releases. We hope to release these in Spring 2012. 1/35 Scale!
