Freaky Gothic, designed by Calum Alexander Watt and sculpted by David Richardson is now available for preorder! This 1/8 scale figure kit contains 24 resin pieces, detailed instructions, and concept art. This visitor from another world, lost in time has a head-height (not including the hat) of approximately 24cm and would be a great piece for any Steampunk or Historical Miniatures fan with a taste for the unique.

Before you’ve heard the shot, you’re already dead. The 1/8 scale Drone Sniper print is done and ready for casting. The print looks amazing and if all goes well with the casting quote, it’ll be our most affordable large scale figure yet, which is the goal for our 1/8 scale figure line.

Philippe Bouchet, aka Manchu’s 1/35 Steam Car is just about ready for production. The figures, modeled by Pedram Karimfazli, are complete and look great in the car. We should have a final, color render of that soon. Meanwhile, here’s a shot of the Steam Car and Figures separately. Preorders start in April 2013!
Here’s the final images of Christophe Desse’s 1/35 L’Estafette w/figures (included with kit!). Of note are the new rims. After some feedback and research of wire rims done with photoetch, we realized that it’s difficult to design, (not really a problem for us) difficult to cast as we wouldn’t want to split the wheels in half like more PE/Resin wire wheels do for 1/35 motorcycles so would mean each wheel would have 5-6 parts that would have to fit PERFECTLY and resin shrinkage is always a problem, and difficult for the average modeler to do correctly the first time without needing extra wheels (why most 1/35 motorcycle kits don’t have wire wheels as the default). So what we’re going to do is have the wheels be 4 cool dieselpunk mag wheels, with two optional hubcaps for the rear wheels. We may do an optional set of wire wheels if there’s enough interest. Let us know!

First up, the new fish sub, Prof. FichtenFoo’s Implausible Long-Nose Submersible goes up for preorder on Friday March 1, 2013 along with Christophe Desse’s Submariners and the Skipper. All three of these Steampunk-styled kits are in 1/35 scale. All three will be shipping in Early April at the latest. The Skipper is the long awaited pilot for the original Fantastical Fish-Shaped Submersible (which is in stock now) and comes with a new seat and control sticks. Will be great for ships, balloons, etc!
Christophe Desse has posted some fantastic renders of his upcoming 1/35 scale L’Estafette. I love these because they look like finished plastic figures. Cool stuff coming in May 2013!
FichtenFoo’s Orb Ship Build-up »
I finished up my Orb Ship build-up last week after putting it aside for several months while working on other masters and product launches. It’s a really fun build and if you haven’t had a chance to get one, you can preorder the next edition on Friday. The Scott Robertson 1/48 scale Orb Ship‘s 2nd Edition will be available for PREorder on Friday 3.1.2013 as well. This very large ship is $155 + Shipping.
Originally slated as a 1/12 scale release, David Richardson added more detail to Freaky when we decided to up the size to 1/8 scale. Back in 2011 when I first announced that I was starting Industria Mechanika, one of my first collaborator announcements was for Adrian Smith. We wanted to do something slightly different from his normal artwork… something that we thought you guys would love and I had an idea in my head I’d been toying with. I gave him a few rough ideas in text form and what he came back with was more amazing that I ever dreamed up. We initially teamed up with a clay sculptor, but the result was… not good, suffered many many delays, and we missed out on this being one of our first releases. But after Adrian introduced me to the uber-talented 3D artist Rishi Nandlaskar, the modeler for our Frankenstein (email me if you want a potential 2nd Frankie edition!) and Deckhands releases, we finally can bring this release to reality and to you!
Announcing Adrian Smith’s Chrononaut!
This steampunk inspired time-traveling hunter will be released as a 1/8 scale resin/multimedia kit early this summer. In fact if all goes well, it might even be done in time for Wonderfest 2013 in Louisville.
What you see above in 3D is about 95% complete. Rishi is adding and refining the textures and should be done with the 3D by this weekend. Below I’ve added some of the original concept sketches as well as the final concept art. The price is TBD of course and due to the large (and awesome!) T-Rex head base will be a little more expensive than what I intend our 1/8 scale line-up to be as the base will make up almost 1/2 of the kit bulk in printing and casting costs. He’ll also have some photoetch, chain, wire, etc in the box to complete the kit.
And of course he’ll look awesome alongside of our upcoming Freaky Gothic figure by Calum Watt/David Richardson!
I’ll add him to the shop for notifications in a day or two.
As promised before my vacation last week, here’s some almost done renders of the upcoming Calum Watt “Freaky Gothic” modeled by the amazing David Richardson. Originally slated for 1/12 scale we’ve decided to increase that and do 1/8 scale instead. Seems that most of you want the figures to be larger and that’s fine. 1/8 scale should be a nice balance between size and costs making them more affordable than our 1/6 scale figures were. Price details to come. David is currently tightening up details and textures since we increased the scale. I’ll show close-up views of this when they’re available.

The Ian McQue Sky Mark buoy will be available for preorder on 10.31.2012 aka Halloween! I received my tests of both the photoetch and the resin so expect unpainted build-up pics next week some time. Watch the Facebook page for the usual first-look. This kit comes with two large frets of photoetch for construction, brass rod, and blinking red LEDs for those wanting to light it.
Sky Mark Price:
This little guy is best in pairs IMO so we’ll offering the kit’s first edition of 100 kits at $60 each or two for $100 USD + Shipping. We suspect these will go fast due to the amount of notification requests, amount of Remora’s sold, and the low price. They should be shipping some time in November.
We’re getting close on Dystopic! I should have the first batch of resin in a week to two. After that I can begin the instruction sheet and boxing. I’m having two casters work on this to keep the costs as low as I can manage. We’re estimating that Dystopic will cost $210 USD + shipping. What you get though is well worth it! A large 1/6 scale figure kit overflowing with fine detail and texture, wire, decals, laser-cut clear flower, and possibly PE as well. We’ll start the preorder event on 11.5.2012 as by then we should have a better idea of the final costs.
I received the initial samples of the Orb Ship resin this weekend as well as the production photoetch frets. It’s going together really well and I’ve already got the lighting done and the laser-cut windows in place with their PE frames. Check out the video and images of my pre-release build below.
Originally we had planned for the canopy to be a vacuformed piece. Well, that didn’t work out so well so we’ve decided to go with a resin canopy. Blappy is doing an amazing job on it so I thought I’d share the results.Production is ongoing but we hope to be shipping these in about 3 weeks from today.
I was invited by one of my distributors, Tom Grossman of Tag Team Hobbies, to come to the iHobby Expo in Cleveland, OH and display, sell some of our wares. The show was a lot of fun and the Tag Team guys couldn’t have been nicer. I got a chance to meet some of you, shocked a few that didn’t realize that I am also FichtenFoo, and got some great ideas from the other exhibitors for future releases. Here’s a few pics.
Luca Zampriolo’s Kastor Hovertank is going back into production this week. We should have them restocked in about 4-6 weeks so watch this space and fill out the Notify Me to get an email when the restock preorder starts.
