L’Estafette Renders »

Christophe Desse has posted some fantastic renders of his upcoming 1/35 scale L’Estafette. I love these because they look like finished plastic figures. Cool stuff coming in May 2013!

FichtenFoo’s Orb Ship Build-up »

fichtenfoo-imech-orb-wp

I finished up my Orb Ship build-up last week after putting it aside for several months while working on other masters and product launches. It’s a really fun build and if you haven’t had a chance to get one, you can preorder the next edition on Friday. Here’s the pics of my build-up and more detailed info/tutorials on the build can be found on my blog at FichtenFoo.com.

Scott Robertson’s Orb Ship 2nd Ed Preorder »

osmain

The Scott Robertson 1/48 scale Orb Ship‘s 2nd Edition will be available for PREorder on Friday 3.1.2013 as well. This very large ship is $155 + Shipping.

Calum Watt’s Freaky Gothic Update

Originally slated as a 1/12 scale release, David Richardson added more detail to Freaky when we decided to up the size to 1/8 scale. Check out the old pics here compared to the new ones with added detail. It’s going to be a fantastic piece when it goes into production! Adrian Smith’s Chrononaut

Back in 2011 when I first announced that I was starting Industria Mechanika, one of my first collaborator announcements was for Adrian Smith. We wanted to do something slightly different from his normal artwork… something that we thought you guys would love and I had an idea in my head I’d been toying with. I gave him a few rough ideas in text form and what he came back with was more amazing that I ever dreamed up. We initially teamed up with a clay sculptor, but the result was… not good, suffered many many delays, and we missed out on this being one of our first releases. But after Adrian introduced me to the uber-talented 3D artist Rishi Nandlaskar, the modeler for our Frankenstein (email me if you want a potential 2nd Frankie edition!) and Deckhands releases, we finally can bring this release to reality and to you!

Announcing Adrian Smith’s Chrononaut!

This steampunk inspired time-traveling hunter will be released as a 1/8 scale resin/multimedia kit early this summer. In fact if all goes well, it might even be done in time for Wonderfest 2013 in Louisville.

chronosheet

What you see above in 3D is about 95% complete. Rishi is adding and refining the textures and should be done with the 3D by this weekend. Below I’ve added some of the original concept sketches as well as the final concept art. The price is TBD of course and due to the large (and awesome!) T-Rex head base will be a little more expensive than what I intend our 1/8 scale line-up to be as the base will make up almost 1/2 of the kit bulk in printing and casting costs. He’ll also have some photoetch, chain, wire, etc in the box to complete the kit.

And of course he’ll look awesome alongside of our upcoming Freaky Gothic figure by Calum Watt/David Richardson!

I’ll add him to the shop for notifications in a day or two.

Calum Watt’s Freaky Gothic

gothic03

As promised before my vacation last week, here’s some almost done renders of the upcoming Calum Watt “Freaky Gothic” modeled by the amazing David Richardson. Originally slated for 1/12 scale we’ve decided to increase that and do 1/8 scale instead. Seems that most of you want the figures to be larger and that’s fine. 1/8 scale should be a nice balance between size and costs making them more affordable than our 1/6 scale figures were. Price details to come. David is currently tightening up details and textures since we increased the scale. I’ll show close-up views of this when they’re available.

iMech News 10.18.2012

Welcome to another edition of iMech news! This time we talk about the recent iHobby show in Cleveland, OH which I attended last weekend, Ian McQue Sky Mark Preorders, Derek Stenning’s Dystopic Preorders, Orb Ship shipping and build-info, and upcoming restocks.

Ian McQue’s Sky Mark Preorder Date, Price »

The Ian McQue Sky Mark buoy will be available for preorder on 10.31.2012 aka Halloween! I received my tests of both the photoetch and the resin so expect unpainted build-up pics next week some time. Watch the Facebook page for the usual first-look. This kit comes with two large frets of photoetch for construction, brass rod, and blinking red LEDs for those wanting to light it.

buoyart-01

Sky Mark Price:

This little guy is best in pairs IMO so we’ll offering the kit’s first edition of 100 kits at $60 each or two for $100 USD + Shipping. We suspect these will go fast due to the amount of notification requests, amount of Remora’s sold, and the low price. They should be shipping some time in November.

Derek Stenning’s Dystopic Preorder »

We’re getting close on Dystopic! I should have the first batch of resin in a week to two. After that I can begin the instruction sheet and boxing. I’m having two casters work on this to keep the costs as low as I can manage. We’re estimating that Dystopic will cost $210 USD + shipping. What you get though is well worth it! A large 1/6 scale figure kit overflowing with fine detail and texture, wire, decals, laser-cut clear flower, and possibly PE as well. We’ll start the preorder event on 11.5.2012 as by then we should have a better idea of the final costs.

Scott Robertson’s Orb Ship Build Info »

I received the initial samples of the Orb Ship resin this weekend as well as the production photoetch frets. It’s going together really well and I’ve already got the lighting done and the laser-cut windows in place with their PE frames. Check out the video and images of my pre-release build below.

I’ll have the rest of the resin on Saturday and will be shipping Orb Ships on 10.22.2012.

Jake Parker’s Chompbot Canopy Redo »

Originally we had planned for the canopy to be a vacuformed piece. Well, that didn’t work out so well so we’ve decided to go with a resin canopy. Blappy is doing an amazing job on it so I thought I’d share the results.Production is ongoing but we hope to be shipping these in about 3 weeks from today.

iHobby 2012 Report »

I was invited by one of my distributors, Tom Grossman of Tag Team Hobbies, to come to the iHobby Expo in Cleveland, OH and display, sell some of our wares. The show was a lot of fun and the Tag Team guys couldn’t have been nicer. I got a chance to meet some of you, shocked a few that didn’t realize that I am also FichtenFoo, and got some great ideas from the other exhibitors for future releases. Here’s a few pics.

Luca Z’s Kastor Restock »

kastorfeature

Industria Mechanika to Collaborate with Game Studio Vaylr on Kickstarter Campaign Reward

13e5a01ee02b3742b966fb5ce6a7e6ef_large

Last month I mentioned that we were doing a lot of client work that we were not allowed to discuss yet. The first of these client projects went live today and now I can spill some beans! (Not all the beans, but a nice sampling)

Vaylr Studios is running a kickstarter campaign to get funding for their upcoming first-person action horror game called “Pray for Dark”. “In Pray For Dark™ you play as Angel (aka Sewer Man), a rogue assassin hunter who is forced down into the “Hell” beneath a once great city now ruled by corruption and crime. Only you have the unique power to kill a massive legion of mutant beasts and their malevolent leader known as the Queen Mother …or you’ll die tryin’.

f798d3c026ae55463f6caae688ee55a9_large

It has a unique steampunk vibe to the setting with cool characters inspired and licensed by gothic fantasy artist BROM. As a fan of both Steampunk and BROM, as well as an avid gamer, I’m pretty excited about this title.

vaylrjoe

Industria Mechanika’s role is to produce one of the backer rewards in their Kickstarter fundraising campaign. Angel has a cool sidearm named Lil’ J.O.E.. We’re producing a strict limited edition 1:1 scale garage kit of Lil’ J.O.E. which will be available to those who pledge the minimally required amount to get that reward.

95c2487344bd78a9a236d904485fbf0b_large

The Lil’ J.O.E. kit will contain resin kit parts, both clear and opaque, leather strapping, and photoetched brass. Each kit will also contain a multi-part resin stand in order to display your completed Lil’ J.O.E.!

Check out the Kickstarter campaign (watch the video!) as well as the press release for more details, and if you can, please donate to make this game a reality. looks like a lot of fun!

iMech News 7.29.2012

Lots of news to go over today as I missed showing off a few things last week.

Frankenstein Printwork »

The artwork for Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein‘s box and instructions are at the printer and thankfully will be here in time for the 8/7/2012 release date. Frankenstein sports an awesome 49 resin parts, chain and real chain mail! Check out the samples below and click here to preorder.

New Hornethopter Pilots Set »

First I must apologize to Christophe Desse for not posting these sooner! He redesigned the Hornethopter pilots based loosely on my original hand-sculpts for the first few editions. The seated pilot will be available with the next release of the Hornethopter, while all four will be available as a separate set. No idea on price yet, but expect them in the store within 6-8 weeks.

Fish Sub Pilot Beginnings »

Christophe Desse is also busy designing a pilots set for the original and upcoming MkII Fish-Shaped submersibles. The next edition (6th) of the Mk I may not come with the figure, (as it won’t be ready in time for the next edition) but the first edition of the Mk II will and a sub pilots set including the seated pilots (for those that purchased the first 5 editions of the Mk I sub) will be available for everyone around the time of the Mk II release. Below you can see the base figure. Other pilot versions will have an old-timey tank-top swim suit style, hats, breathers, etc…

Derek Stenning’s Dystopic Update »

Not much new to show here, but I wanted to let everyone know that Dystopic is coming soon! The print will be done in 4-5 days I’m told, then clean-up, then onto production. We’re still looking at October for a preorder/release. Below you can see how the parts-breakup will look. Each color is a separate printed kit part.

Futuristic Loader Update »

A few new images of the Futuristic loader. I brought up that there was no leg support for this heavy lifter so the team collaborated and came up with this great-looking result. I’ve added it to the calendar as a tentative November preorder/release.

A Steampunk Costume Contest Winner!

The winner and undisputed champion is…

To be announced in a bit… first let’s play the reality TV game and not get right to the point shall we? Sorry for not getting these results up sooner. I’ve been pretty much inundated here at iMech central and haven’t had a chance. I had also given the Collaborator judges until July 5th to submit their results. I did the tallies yesterday based on the three divisions: Public Poll, Select Collaborators, and Contestant Votes.

Public Tally: This was based on the poll seen here.
Collaborators Tally: I asked about 10  trusted collaborators/staff to vote based on what would make for the best kit. Point values were: 1st 3pts, 2nd 2pts, and 3rd choice 1 pt. Thanks to Ian McQue, Rishi Nandlaskar, Derek Stenning, and Brent Curtis! All of whom have opinions I value.
Contestant Tally: Each contestant got to vote for 3 entrants worth 1 point each.

Actual Scores:

Congrats to our winner: Chris Lee!

Chris got the top score in each caregory making him the hands-down winner. Chris will get his likeness made into a 1/35 scale figure kit. (2in. / 50mm tall) Chris wins his likeness in costume made into a 1/35 scale (50mm) figure kit. Two copies of your kit with the option to have one pre-painted by a figure modeler. Also one copy of the upcoming Squid-Shaped Submersible model kit.

Character Name: Dr. Mortimer J. Torque, Inventor, Tinkerer, and Steamologist of the Apparition Abolishers
Information: SOFT: Soft pieces similar to gentleman of the day include boots, pants, fancy button up shirt w/ sleeve holders, vest and top hat.
GEAR: Gear is all found and repurposed objects. The Portable Power Pack is designed to generate steam on demand for The Device (an energy field detector). The pack derives its power from a vertically-mounted Emeraldic Energy Extrapolator which provides the wattage to heat the water in the small boiler at the bottom of the rig. The steam can then be safely dispensed as needed to the other team members’s weapons and gear through the removable high-pressure injectors, shown hanging on the left of each pack in the photos.
OTHER: Signature pieces include brass duck head cane and goggles, gun and holster belt, plus skeleton keys for accessing various areas of his secret laboratory. Famous for several mechanical inventions such as Scrappington Hauley (mechanical mule), H.A.R.O.L.D.E. (Heavy Ambulatory Rider Operated Load Dispatching Equipment, steam powered exosuit), and A.T.T. (Automatic Torque Telegrapher, communication device). (If chosen, can send photos of each of these as a larger accessory reference.)

Runners Up »

As stated a few will be chosen, not based on the voting, but on what we think our customers would like as a kit. These choices are still TBD (although I have at least 2 in mind already, pending contact with contetants) and will be based on what looks best, can get the most use in a variety of scenes, etc… and will be determined by Industria Mechanika. It is not based on the voting scores as iMech did not participate in the actual voting.  Those entrants will receive: Their own runner-up’s likeness in costume made into a 1/35 scale (2in. / 50mm) figure kit. Two copies of the runner-up kit.

Thanks!

Thanks to all of the entrants for showing off their amazing costumes. We’ll certainly do this again in the future as we like to promote artists, modelers, sculptors, and their original works.
