skymark-sketches-2

Yeah, I know…. FINALLY! The next Ian McQue release! I had asked Ian soon after the Remora release about doing a small release like a buoy that could be used with it and the other ships we plan to produce and here’s the result. This ‘sky mark’ buoy isn’t a ship, but is a fantastic accessory for the Remora and the upcoming and unannounced (till now) “Waldo” airship. The Waldo will be officially announced with pics in 4-6 weeks. I’m waiting on some materials to get the hull in a state that I can show off. For now though you’ll have to wait. Sorry!

skymark-master-01

The Sky Mark was conceptualized by Ian McQue and sculpted by Myself (Michael Fichtenmayer/FichtenFoo). Ian provided me with a series of sketches of different shapes and designs, then he made a rough 3D rendering of the Sky Mark for me to use as reference during the sculpting. This buoy will feature approximately 14 resin parts, wire, decals, and a LOT of photoetch for the truss frames. (Etch features push-out rivets to make it more dimensional) It’ll also come with two clear red blinking LEDs that you can use to light it up. (wiring/batteries not included, but probably a how-to in the instructions)

skymark-sketches-1

This 1/35 scale buoy will be approximately 12 inches/30cm tall when complete and about 3 inches/8cm wide. No idea on price or actual release date yet. The PE is in production, the master for the resin is done, but the resin parts are not yet in production and are actually sitting on my worktable waiting for one of my casters to be freed up.

Last month I mentioned that we were doing a lot of client work that we were not allowed to discuss yet. The first of these client projects went live today and now I can spill some beans! (Not all the beans, but a nice sampling)

Vaylr Studios is running a kickstarter campaign to get funding for their upcoming first-person action horror game called “Pray for Dark”. “In Pray For Dark™ you play as Angel (aka Sewer Man), a rogue assassin hunter who is forced down into the “Hell” beneath a once great city now ruled by corruption and crime. Only you have the unique power to kill a massive legion of mutant beasts and their malevolent leader known as the Queen Mother …or you’ll die tryin’.

It has a unique steampunk vibe to the setting with cool characters inspired and licensed by gothic fantasy artist BROM. As a fan of both Steampunk and BROM, as well as an avid gamer, I’m pretty excited about this title.

Industria Mechanika’s role is to produce one of the backer rewards in their Kickstarter fundraising campaign. Angel has a cool sidearm named Lil’ J.O.E.. We’re producing a strict limited edition 1:1 scale garage kit of Lil’ J.O.E. which will be available to those who pledge the minimally required amount to get that reward.

The Lil’ J.O.E. kit will contain resin kit parts, both clear and opaque, leather strapping, and photoetched brass. Each kit will also contain a multi-part resin stand in order to display your completed Lil’ J.O.E.!

Check out the Kickstarter campaign (watch the video!) as well as the press release for more details, and if you can, please donate to make this game a reality. looks like a lot of fun!

imech_ek_announcement

Been a while since I’ve posted about this Derek Stenning/Born in Concrete release. 3D artist Gene Campbell has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the 3D and now he’s ready for print with a tentative August 2012 release date. Because we’ll be doing a series of Derek’s figures in  a large 1/6 scale, (a female release next) the concrete base-chunk from the painting was done away with in favor of a larger orb base with a flat bottom. The concrete base was done in 3D, but the high print cost and sheer size of it (3/4 of the entire kit bulk) would make the kit not very affordable. (plus the international shipping would be excessive due to the estimated over 4lb weight) The three of us decided to focus instead on the figure portion of the kit and provide a base-type that can be used throughout the series and look nice together.

Be sure to click “full size” on these render images when they pop-up to see all of the amazing detail!

frnt_final_sphere

The plan is for the orb-base to be produced hollow for reduced kit and shipping costs. The modeler can then fill the orb with weights of their choice in order to have a stable platform for the off-centered figure pose.

As you an see in these hi-res renders, Gene has added a lot of great texture detail to the 3D model. I think that surface texture detail will make this will be a joy to paint and display. Price: TBD

Was waiting on the render for this, got it, then forgot to post it up. Sorry for the wait, but it’s worth it! Here’s the Dustbuster driver, 3D modeled by Benny Garcia and conceptualized by Miguel Lopez. We went with the 3rd guy in the sketches and will probably do the other two at some point as well. The seated driver will also be available separately in a standing pose. (1/35 scale… any other scales wanted? Let us know!)

announcement-rook-01

Here’s a little something cool that we’ve been working on behind the scenes. A while back, Michael Herm contacted us to see if we’d be interested in producing his ‘Rook’ walking tank as a model kit. Having seen this before, as many people forwarded the video to me to show how my own FichtenFoo walking tanks would work, I immediately said YES! It’s a very cool design and as always open for all sorts of modifications and possibilities.

Scale: 1/35    Price: TBD for both sets   Release Date: Winter 2012

rook_prototype_cg_01

Michael Herm started his profession as an animator at a games company in early 2000. He then moved on to study animation at the HFF “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam, graduating with his diploma thesis on showreels and the animated short Chump And Clump, which was shown at numerous festivals worldwide and won several awards.Michael is mostly doing freelance work and specializes in CG character design, modeling, rigging and animation for animated short films. Some of his work can be seen in renowned short films such as The Monster Of Nix, by Studio Rosto A.D, for which he sculpted rigged and animated all the villager heads among other things. And also the Talking Animals Studio productions Flamingo Pride and Rising Hope, where he was responsible for modeling, rigging and animating many characters. Check out his show-reel here.

Michael redesigned the legs and added an interior and missile hatches to his original design. The leg internals have been simplified to be able to be produced in this scale, but he redesigned them in such a way that they’re still very nicely detailed and even posable.

rook_prototype_cg_10

He then went about designing some figures to go with it which we dubbed the ‘Pawn Brigade’ to go with the chess-name of the Rook. This also opens up possibilities for other versions based on this walking chassis in the future. (Knight, Bishop, King and Queen perhaps? Could be cool!)

rook_prototype_cg_05 rook_prototype_cg_06

The Rook will come with two seated pilot figures and the three Pawn Brigade figures will be sold in a separate set. The figure holding the binoculars can also fit into the hatch of the Rook as an alternative pilot.
