Time again for a little news! Today we finally show off the Ian McQue Waldo as well as some housekeeping with release dates, etc.

Calum Watt’s Freaky Gothic »

freakygothic01

First-up is Freaky Gothic by Calum Watt and David Richardson. We’ve of course shown this before, so this is just a reminder that the tentative preorder start date is next Friday, 4.5.2013. I say tentative because I don’t have a casting quote yet as the master is in port-print clean-up and the caster hasn’t seen it yet. As always, as soon as I know, you’ll know! Until then, enjoy the pic and tell your friends! Click here to get a notification when the preorder starts.

Ian McQue’s Waldo »

waldo-00

I finished the master and etch design a few weeks ago and sent this to the caster for production. The tentative preorder start date is 5.1.2013 with the price being somewhere around $120 if all goes well with the casting quote. The Waldo has many resin parts, as well as 2 LARGE photoetch frets to make up the wheelhouse as well as other details, laser-cut windows that will be sandwiched between PE frames as you can see in the etch design image below, and a laser-cut and etched wooden deck. It’ll also come with string and wire to complete it. There’s a lot of detail and multimedia packed into this kit so it’ll be a lot of fun to construct and weather. The hollow 2-part hull has a full engine design inside of it that you can see through the grates on the deck or from the thruster hole below. The Waldo also comes with a 3D designed pilot by Ian McQue and Rishi Nandlaskar who sculpted the Deckhands set. More info on the actual price when info comes in. Mike Jensen’s Drone Sniper »

Before you’ve heard the shot, you’re already dead. The 1/8 scale Drone Sniper print is done and ready for casting. The print looks amazing and if all goes well with the casting quote, it’ll be our most affordable large scale figure yet, which is the goal for our 1/8 scale figure line.

steamcarannouncement

Philippe Bouchet, aka Manchu’s 1/35 Steam Car is just about ready for production. The figures, modeled by Pedram Karimfazli, are complete and look great in the car. We should have a final, color render of that soon. Meanwhile, here’s a shot of the Steam Car and Figures separately. Preorders start in April 2013!

Christophe Desse’s L’Estafette »

Here’s the final images of Christophe Desse’s 1/35 L’Estafette w/figures (included with kit!). Of note are the new rims. After some feedback and research of wire rims done with photoetch, we realized that it’s difficult to design, (not really a problem for us) difficult to cast as we wouldn’t want to split the wheels in half like more PE/Resin wire wheels do for 1/35 motorcycles so would mean each wheel would have 5-6 parts that would have to fit PERFECTLY and resin shrinkage is always a problem, and difficult for the average modeler to do correctly the first time without needing extra wheels (why most 1/35 motorcycle kits don’t have wire wheels as the default). So what we’re going to do is have the wheels be 4 cool dieselpunk mag wheels, with two optional hubcaps for the rear wheels. We may do an optional set of wire wheels if there’s enough interest. Let us know!

Originally slated as a 1/12 scale release, David Richardson added more detail to Freaky when we decided to up the size to 1/8 scale. Check out the old pics here compared to the new ones with added detail. It’s going to be a fantastic piece when it goes into production! Back in 2011 when I first announced that I was starting Industria Mechanika, one of my first collaborator announcements was for Adrian Smith. We wanted to do something slightly different from his normal artwork… something that we thought you guys would love and I had an idea in my head I’d been toying with. I gave him a few rough ideas in text form and what he came back with was more amazing that I ever dreamed up. We initially teamed up with a clay sculptor, but the result was… not good, suffered many many delays, and we missed out on this being one of our first releases. But after Adrian introduced me to the uber-talented 3D artist Rishi Nandlaskar, the modeler for our Frankenstein (email me if you want a potential 2nd Frankie edition!) and Deckhands releases, we finally can bring this release to reality and to you!

Announcing Adrian Smith’s Chrononaut!

This steampunk inspired time-traveling hunter will be released as a 1/8 scale resin/multimedia kit early this summer. In fact if all goes well, it might even be done in time for Wonderfest 2013 in Louisville.

What you see above in 3D is about 95% complete. Rishi is adding and refining the textures and should be done with the 3D by this weekend. Below I’ve added some of the original concept sketches as well as the final concept art. The price is TBD of course and due to the large (and awesome!) T-Rex head base will be a little more expensive than what I intend our 1/8 scale line-up to be as the base will make up almost 1/2 of the kit bulk in printing and casting costs. He’ll also have some photoetch, chain, wire, etc in the box to complete the kit.

And of course he’ll look awesome alongside of our upcoming Freaky Gothic figure by Calum Watt/David Richardson!

I’ll add him to the shop for notifications in a day or two.

gothic03

As promised before my vacation last week, here’s some almost done renders of the upcoming Calum Watt “Freaky Gothic” modeled by the amazing David Richardson. Originally slated for 1/12 scale we’ve decided to increase that and do 1/8 scale instead. Seems that most of you want the figures to be larger and that’s fine. 1/8 scale should be a nice balance between size and costs making them more affordable than our 1/6 scale figures were. Price details to come. David is currently tightening up details and textures since we increased the scale. I’ll show close-up views of this when they’re available.

Lots of news to go over today as I missed showing off a few things last week.

Frankenstein Printwork »

The artwork for Adrian Smith’s Frankenstein‘s box and instructions are at the printer and thankfully will be here in time for the 8/7/2012 release date. Frankenstein sports an awesome 49 resin parts, chain and real chain mail! Check out the samples below and click here to preorder.

New Hornethopter Pilots Set »

First I must apologize to Christophe Desse for not posting these sooner! He redesigned the Hornethopter pilots based loosely on my original hand-sculpts for the first few editions. The seated pilot will be available with the next release of the Hornethopter, while all four will be available as a separate set. No idea on price yet, but expect them in the store within 6-8 weeks.

Fish Sub Pilot Beginnings »

Christophe Desse is also busy designing a pilots set for the original and upcoming MkII Fish-Shaped submersibles. The next edition (6th) of the Mk I may not come with the figure, (as it won’t be ready in time for the next edition) but the first edition of the Mk II will and a sub pilots set including the seated pilots (for those that purchased the first 5 editions of the Mk I sub) will be available for everyone around the time of the Mk II release. Below you can see the base figure. Other pilot versions will have an old-timey tank-top swim suit style, hats, breathers, etc…

Derek Stenning’s Dystopic Update »

Not much new to show here, but I wanted to let everyone know that Dystopic is coming soon! The print will be done in 4-5 days I’m told, then clean-up, then onto production. We’re still looking at October for a preorder/release. Below you can see how the parts-breakup will look. Each color is a separate printed kit part.

Futuristic Loader Update »

A few new images of the Futuristic loader. I brought up that there was no leg support for this heavy lifter so the team collaborated and came up with this great-looking result. I’ve added it to the calendar as a tentative November preorder/release.

frankenstein-06

Woo! I received the master 3D print for The Frankenstein designed by Adrian Smith and 3D modeled by Rishi Nandlaskar in the post today. I immediately cracked open the box and started putting it together and I must say that this kit is BAD-ASS! Frankie stands about 12″ tall (not including the base) and is very heavy and beefy with the muscles and armor. This kit doesn’t have a scale as it was based on an existing 3D print, but I would say, considering his massive size, that he’d be about 1-8 scale.

Frankie Unmasked!

Until now I have never seen the back of this model or all of the details so when I opened the box and started removing the foam I was in for a surprise. I had thought that the helmet was molded on, but in fact it’s a separate part and Frankenstein has a fully-detailedhead/face beneath it. There’s a peg hole i the top of the head, but one could easily fill that with putty if they wanted a helmetless Frankie.

frankenstein-07

The kit consists of 54 parts so far. I need to order scale chain mail and chain for the mace to include in the box. Due to all the parts and detail, I need to create the instructions for him before he goes to the caster so expect him to be released in March or April. Until then, enjoy these pics!
