iMech News 7.22.2014

So much to talk about this month! You might have noticed (because I’ve been promoting it!) our new look, especially our completely redesigned store. Also new and upcoming mecha designs by Christophe Desse and Kallamity, disappointing news about iMech going to JerseyFest, and more!

About Our New Look »

For the past 10 days or so I’ve been redesigning the iMech Shop and Blog. (The forum is next!) This update adds a lot of new functionality and improvements to the store, both in look and function. It should be a better shopping experience for everyone with far less bugs than the old shop. The trade-off however is that the store needed to be done from scratch. That means all user accounts for the old store are not accessible in the new store, but so are the hassles of lost password retrieval. The accounts and orders still exist in the old store which I’m keeping for now in an undisclosed location for taking care of existing preorders, but all new accounts and orders will go through the new and improved shop.

We hope you enjoy the new site! It’ll make adding an upcoming, totally secret product line that’s in development a LOT easier. ;-) News on that in a few months when it’s further along.

With the new look comes a new product: Christophe Desse’s upcoming KRBL-TR-47 scout walker! Coming later in 2014 from the Red Star 47 and Her Majesty’s Estafette. Note: The figures shown are from our Ground Crew and Flight Ready figure sets. KRBL-TR Scout Walker will come with new figures for driver, and turret, but the KRBL-TR will work many of our figure sets. Final product

We are now offering the decals that come with Calum Watt’s Hopper as a stand-alone product. They’re cool enough to use on a variety of project ideas, or to associate another build-up with your Hopper via markings.

About JerseyFest »

I really wanted to make it to JerseyFest this year, purchased a table, made reservations, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Most don’t realize that I’m a very small business and as such almost everything that needs done is done by me. It piles up. Now factor in that Wonderfest and a few resellers depleted most of my stock that I would had been taking to JF and well… I could either spend the money and drive 6 hours to go to JF and stand behind a table apologizing to everyone, telling them to preorder on our website, or I could do that here and on Facebook and use the saved time and money to do some amazing things. This website redesign is just one of many things I had planned for the summer that I am able to work on now. More coolness is on the way!

But I’m not “a monster” who’s going to leave the attendees at JF hanging. Prove that you were there and I’ll give you free shipping on orders placed after the show between 8.3 and 8.8.2014. The “Best of iMech” trophy will also be awarded there still, just not judged by me as planned. No worries though, the judges are awesome!

Michael Herm’s Rook Update!

rook_lrg

Wow… I’m getting several emails a day asking about this kit, it’s release date, images, etc… Looks like it’ll be a hit! Make sure you get on the notification list by registering for the shop (not the forum, as that’s a separate registration as is not connected to the store in any way) and clicking the notify me link on the Rook page. I’m planning to launch the preorder in mid February, but need to finalize all the costs to come up with a retail price first so bear with me.

I received an image of the printed master parts of the rook (pilots and pawns are coming) today and it’s too cool not to share. I’m told that the joints are nice and tight with the included resin pins, and there’s only one leg printed (since we’ll duplicate that 4x in the casting process for each kit) so we can’t show a built-up version yet. However you can see the crisp printing, detailed parts, and just it’s general coolness.

Also as you can see, the box art is finalized and will soon be going to print for both the Rook walking tank and the Pawn Brigade figure set.

The Rook will be cast by the same firm as the Dustbuster so you can expect VERY high-quality castings with minimal plugs and almost no mold-lines. Should ship by the end of March 2013.

Michael Herm’s ‘Rook’ and ‘Pawn Brigade’

announcement-rook-01

Here’s a little something cool that we’ve been working on behind the scenes. A while back, Michael Herm contacted us to see if we’d be interested in producing his ‘Rook’ walking tank as a model kit. Having seen this before, as many people forwarded the video to me to show how my own FichtenFoo walking tanks would work, I immediately said YES! It’s a very cool design and as always open for all sorts of modifications and possibilities.

Scale: 1/35    Price: TBD for both sets   Release Date: Winter 2012

Michael Herm started his profession as an animator at a games company in early 2000. He then moved on to study animation at the HFF “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam, graduating with his diploma thesis on showreels and the animated short Chump And Clump, which was shown at numerous festivals worldwide and won several awards.Michael is mostly doing freelance work and specializes in CG character design, modeling, rigging and animation for animated short films. Some of his work can be seen in renowned short films such as The Monster Of Nix, by Studio Rosto A.D, for which he sculpted rigged and animated all the villager heads among other things. And also the Talking Animals Studio productions Flamingo Pride and Rising Hope, where he was responsible for modeling, rigging and animating many characters. Check out his show-reel here.

Michael redesigned the legs and added an interior and missile hatches to his original design. The leg internals have been simplified to be able to be produced in this scale, but he redesigned them in such a way that they’re still very nicely detailed and even posable.

He then went about designing some figures to go with it which we dubbed the ‘Pawn Brigade’ to go with the chess-name of the Rook. This also opens up possibilities for other versions based on this walking chassis in the future. (Knight, Bishop, King and Queen perhaps? Could be cool!)

The Rook will come with two seated pilot figures and the three Pawn Brigade figures will be sold in a separate set. The figure holding the binoculars can also fit into the hatch of the Rook as an alternative pilot.
